Join us for our next Meet the Author Night with Marty Skovlund, Jr., U.S. Army Veteran, and co-author of “Send Me: The True Story of a Mother at War,” a newly released publication sharing the incredible life Shannon Kent, a Navy senior chief petty officer who was killed in the 2019 Manbij bombing in Syria. A Navy cryptologic technician, and one of the first women to serve as a special operator, Kent was fluent in seven languages and served multiple tours in Iraq, contributing to the capture of hundreds of enemy insurgents. Only a fraction of the 1.3 million active-duty service members in the U.S. military are selected to be “operators,” and Shannon Kent was among the best.
