We’re celebrating local science with our friends at COSI on May 2! Join us on the Scioto Mile— along with 100+ local STEAM experts & enthusiasts— for a day full of hands-on learning, larger-than-life demonstrations, and inspirational fun!

Stop by the NVMM booth (we’re right next to the display by the U.S. Navy) and enjoy a fun project to “Create Your Own Paratrooper”.

Using a coffee filter, string, tape, and markers, kids will design their own colorful parachute. Then they’ll attach it to a tiny green Army soldier and test how well their parachute works as it floats down to the ground!

As they create and experiment, students will learn how parachutes help slow things down and make safe landings possible. They’ll also learn about the history of the American paratroopers who bravely jumped behind enemy lines during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

Through hands-on building, creativity, and storytelling, students and families will discover how science and courage came together in one of history’s most important moments.
