Writers Revision Workshop with Ohio Laureates

Ever wished for a fresh set of eyes on your work? Join Ohio Laureates Kari Gunter-Seymour, Yalie Saweda Kamara, Jonie McIntire, and Jeremy Jussek for an afternoon of fellowship and writing enhancement. This intimate group critique, in this safe space, will focus on reworking unclear ideas, removing unnecessary details, enhancing word selections and reordering segments for clarity and flow. All levels of “expertise” are welcome.

What to Bring:

  • One poem (up to 45 lines)
  • OR one prose poem
  • OR one piece of mini fiction/non-fiction (400 words max)

Ohio Poet Laureate Kari Gunter-Seymour is the author of four books of poetry and winner of the 2024 Legacy Award, the 2023 ABF Best Book Award and a finalist for the National Indie Excellence Award. She is an Academy of American Poets Fellow, a member of the Ohio Advisory Group for the National Museum of Women in the Arts, a Pillars of Prosperity Fellow for the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and the founder/executive director of the Women of Appalachia Project and editor of its anthology series Women Speak.

Yalie Saweda Kamara, Ph.D. is a Sierra Leonean-American writer, educator, and researcher who serves as the Cincinnati and Mercantile Library Poet Laureate, She is an assistant professor of English at Xavier University and the winner of the 2022-2023 Jake Adam York Prize in poetry. An Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow, Taft Dissertation Completion Fellow and Philanthropic Educational Organization Named Scholar, she received her Ph.D. in Creative Writing (poetry) and English Literature at the University of Cincinnati.

Jonie McIntire is the poet laureate of Lucas County, Ohio and the poetry editor for Of Rust and Glass. She has been widely published and is the author of three chapbooks, one of which was the winner of the Red Flag Poetry 2020 Chapbook contest. She serves as the membership Chair for the Ohio Poetry Association and hosts a monthly poetry reading series, Uncloistered Poetry, a six-year project that currently runs in-person and on-line events each month.

Jeremy Jusek is the poet laureate of Parma Ohio. He is the founder/curator of Flamingo Writers’ Guild and hosts the Ohio Poetry Association’s podcast Poetry Spotlight, showcasing and documenting the voices of Ohio poets throughout the state. He holds an MFA in poetry from Arcadia University, is the author of two collections and has been a freelance writer for over a decade, as well as teaching undergraduate level English and film courses.
