The Bruce – Workout of the Day

The NVMM will host “The Bruce” Workout on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 9 a.m. to Noon.

The Sgt Bruce Cogley Foundation aka “The Bruce” was founded by Matt & Rose Huff. Matt is a Veteran who served with the 101st Airborne Division during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After serving his country, he returned home only to find himself struggling to cope. Those struggles continued for years as a civilian, until he reconnected with those he served with, and found the transformative power of fitness and community. The Bruce is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Veterans to overcome the challenges of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health struggles. Their aim is to provide a supportive community and resources that help Veterans achieve their best physical and mental wellness.

Workout Options:

This workout represents the 10-day battle for hill 937, aka, Hamburger Hill. The battle resulted in 72 American deaths and 372 Americans wounded. Some came home with not only physical wounds but mental wounds of war that they continue to battle to this day. Many, like Sgt. Bruce Cogley ended those battles on their terms years after leaving hill 937. As you move through this workout consider what these men went through looking out for not only themselves but those to their left and right. Push hard, don’t quit, and keep moving.

Each registered event participant will receive one complimentary entry into the Rogue Fitness / NVMM BRUCE Charitable Prize Drawing.*

Eligible participants may enter for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

  • Rogue Echo Bike

About Sgt. Bruce Cogley

Sgt. Bruce Cogley served with the 101st Airborne Division, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment during Vietnam. His time with the unit led him to serve on Hill 937 aka Hamburger Hill. The battle for Hill 937 lasted for ten days from May 10, 1969, and May 20th, 1969. Bruce was wounded on May 18th, 1969, the eighth day of the battle. Sgt. Cogley, like many other veterans whose battles continued beyond the war, ended his personal battle with PTSD on February 20, 1992 by taking his own life. This workout is to remember Sgt. Cogley, as well as, all other Vietnam veterans who lost their battle or continue to fight the war at home. The Bruce WOD (WorkOut of the Day) is the primary fundraiser for the Sgt. Bruce Cogley Foundation, providing Fitness Scholarships to veterans.
