National Volunteer Week is here, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible individuals who make our mission possible. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the NVMM, dedicating their time, energy, and passion to sharing the powerful stories of our nation’s Veterans. Their tireless dedication inspires us every single day.
Meet Ben Dawson and Shelly Deegan – two volunteers whose selfless dedication inspires our community. Their example reminds us that one person can make an immense difference. Discover their “why.”
DOCENT, EDUCATION AND OUTREACH AMBASSADOR
Ben Dawson, U.S. Air Force Veteran
“After visiting the museum, I was so impressed with the way it was presented to tell the journey of Veterans in forming and serving our country. Volunteering has been a great way of paying forward my years of service to aid Veterans and non-Veterans to understand our mission of honoring, connecting, inspiring and educating.”
MUSEUM AND OUTREACH AMBASSADOR
Shelly Deegan, Military Spouse
“As a military spouse, finding a sense of community in a new city can be challenging, especially in places like Columbus, where there is no large military base. Being part of NVMM has connected me with a community that honors our servicemen and women. My teenage son and I enjoy meeting the diverse visitors and learning from their stories. This experience has not only given us a sense of belonging but has also enriched our understanding of service and patriotism.”
This week let’s come together to celebrate these extraordinary individuals who give so selflessly of their time and talents. Their service is what allows us to preserve and honor the legacies of those who served. Interested in joining our team? Start your volunteer journey here.
