Explore our accessibility initiatives here.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
The National Day of Service was established on Martin Luther King Jr., Day. Americans are encouraged to volunteer and improve their communities in honor of Dr. King’s life and legacy of peaceful protest against racial oppression. In 1964, at the age of 35, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The campaign for a federal holiday in his honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. Join us for $1 Admission on January 15.
International Day of Education
On International Day of Education, we’re reminded of U.S. Marine Corps aviator, astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn’s leadership: “If I can inspire young people to dedicate themselves to the good of mankind, I’ve accomplished something.” His vision guides our Museum as we strive to be a valuable educational resource for students K-12, college scholars and educators at all levels. We bring American history to life by connecting you to the powerful personal stories of our nation’s heroes. Learn more about our educational offerings.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On this special day of remembrance, designated by the United Nations to mark the January 27, 1945, liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration and death camp, we commemorate the six million Jews and 11 million others killed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.
